A conflict that True Son has faced in the story is deciding how to cope. In the story, he has second thoughts about whether or not to kill himself. He was going to d this because, he felt that he had no more reason to live, now that he has left his Indian famiy.
Desiree Diego 11/30/04 Per 1 The Native Americans and the Settlers had different views of freedoms. The Native Americans viewed freedom as practicing their own culture. Same with the Settlers. Though when True Son came to Fort Pitt he thought he didn't have as much freedom. True Son couldn't wear what he wanted or practice what he wanted. He wasn't use to this culture. Same with the Settlers if they were to be put with the Native Americans they would feel the same. Freedom is basically what you were first used to and practiced.

Ok, now lets start at the begining. We have Freedom, and we have thoughts of freedom. The Native americans freedom is the freedom to choose. Like if I want to climb a tree and so I do it. I have my freedom to climb a tree, but do you really call that freedom? My self I think that is self control and I don't think that a person would have a problem with that unless the tree belonged to someone that has not given you the permition or alowence to do so. The Native Americans don't believe in property. They believe in that everything belongs to "Mother Nature" and not anyone else. So freedom to them is to be able to take a fish from a river or a deer from the forest. Eather way that is freedom to the Native Americans.
Us on the other hand. Our freedom is the right to do what we want, and own property. We are the oposite of the Native Americans we are the settlers and we are totaly different. These are facts and also my personal thoughts. Thank you for reading them.
The Native Americans think of freedom as being able to run free and hunt in the woods and swim and fish freely in the ocean. While the Settlers think of it as being able to work and the feilds and earning money to buy food. In the story True Son and Gordie talks to the Basketmaker about freedom .
The Native Americans think of freedom as being able to do what they want. They are able to practice their own culture and do what they want. They can run free and hunt and everything else freely. The white settlers thinko f freedom as being able to work in as whatever they want, and fight against other cultures/religions. The white settlers think that the Indians shouldn't be around, but the Indians think that they should be able to live freely, along with th white settlers.
Abi Owens English 2. I think that that the NA view of fredom is better because, first of all they actually their captives lose and make them a part of their culture then they are free to wander on their own. Whereas the settlers the only way you could be free is if you are a white male landowner. The NA also accept all of the people not just their own. In the book we saw that the same was not true to the settlers because True Son's uncle said," One an Indian, always an Indian." So even though he had been born white he was still seen as an Indian.
To Native Americans freedom is basically doing what they wanted to do. They would hunt when they wanted wear what they wanted. Believed in what they want. For fun indeans would fish and play games. Indians had teh same perspecive as the Native Americans. Also they did many similar activities
The one conflict that made me really think about this book, it was the time whene Trueson and Half Arrow were on the bridge with Del and Del was holding the gun to Half Arrow. Trueson took this the wrong way ( as trying to hurt Half Arrow.) so in an act of heroism Trueson jumped on Del. What do u think Trueson was thinking at that point in time? was he just thinking about saving Half Arrow or was he thinking about escaping also. that brings up a nother point in my mind Doesnt Trueson atleast want to meet his real family? wouldn't he be curious about who his real perants where. course then theirs the fact that he doesn't trust the white people. Why didn't he tell them he wasn't going hes someone new?
how do you feel about freedom?? from reading what your wrote it seems liek you have a GREAT idea about freedom that the Native Amercians had. keep on reading that wounderful book and hopefully you understand!!!!!!!!!
Well you must really love me since you posted that twice. I am thankful that you think i have a great understanding. I beleive i do. It sounds like you do too. I fully agree with what you have wrote. Keep on making wonderful writings!
Freedoms are wierd and the settlers and native americans had different views. The settlers trapped True Son and wouldn't let him leave. The Native Americans let him roam where he wanted to.
I think that the native americans thought that freedom was something that everyone had. Also, the whites thought that freedom didnt really exist you had to own land and have it to yourself for it to be yours. Thats the difference between the indinans and the native americans. Further, the native americans thought that you could do what you wanted whenever you wanted to do it. While the whites had a specific time and place for everything.
The Native Americans and the White Settlers have very different opinions on freedom. The White settlers believe that freedom is being able to do waht you want when you want. They aslo believe that younger people don't have the right to use their opinion on things. like in the book True Son or John was forced to live with the white settlers and didn't have a voice on what he wanted. But the Native Americans believe that freedom is running free, hunting and being who you are and what you want to be. The believe that everyone has their own rights.
The Native American's point of view of freedom is quite different based on the book The Light In The Forest. The reason is because the native americans sees freedom as for example, running free in the open fields, catching butterflies, or worshiping their own gods ect. I think the settlers sees freedom as living under anyone's controll, living freely ect in that direction. It's an just an opinion from me so I might be wrong
It seems as though native americans have more freedom then the settlers because it just seems like they do so much more things that the settlers dont even think about doing.
The settlers and indians had totally different views of freedom. the settlers thought of freedom as not being held against your will, or being controlled by others. Indians thought being free was living in nature. They thought being inside a room was not being free. native americans were not used to living insite and they thought it was not being free.
This Is Matthew Slater and I Think That The Native America's View Of Freedom Is That They Have Had The Freedom To Do Almost Whatever They Wanted To Do. Then Really Odd White Skinned People Came And Started Taking Land And Giving Orders As If The Owned The Entire Contry. Please Give Me Feed Back About How Many People Think This Was Or Was Not Fair To The Native American Peoples.
I think that the Settlers and the Native Americans had completely different views on freedom. The Settlers viewed freedom as being able to do what you want and dress how you want etc. But I think that to the Native Americans, those kinds of things were a given. To the Native Americans freedom was more about being in the open and not being "imprisoned" by walls and boundaries. On the first page of chapter 7, True Son is trying to sleep his first night in Fort Pitt, and the book says the "he felt sealed up as in the grave." Because he was in such and enclosed space.
that one person with the face and the hair i mean that one person named um oh i forgot. oh ya i remember its taylor, no kyle, no sam, no nick, no stephen, no ricky, oh ya its brandon. im serious its brandon u gotta believe me!!!!!!! brandon ya um yep ne ways, im gonna say sumthin bout the light in the forest. ummmm.......... oh ya, the view of freedom the native americans had was that they should be held captive but should be treated well. For xample they fed them good food and they actually gave the prisoners more respect than the deserved. yep that was ther view of the settlers freedoms.
I agree with Desiree(I love U) Poor True son could not exspress himself in the way he was comfertabel. he was not abel to where his indian dress, speak his old language, or speak about his old family and friends without peopel getting mad or annoyed. the native americans and seteleres had very very very very very very different oppinions about freedom and expressed it in different ways. Bolth are good and neither is rght and neither is wrong.

But im at the part were True Son and his cousin Half Arrow are being taken to the village of the white people. Well actually not Half Arrow he's just there i guess.
Freedom to the Native Americans means that you are free to do what they want as long as what they do is not against indians. Freedom to the settler is that they can do anything whenever they want.
I agree with desiree! I think that True son was feeling like he was closed in while he was with his white family. He wasn't happy and he was feeling sick. When he went out and saw Half Arrow in chapter 11, he didn't feel sick anymore because he was with, what he thought, was his real family. He felt free when he was back out in the outdoors. Settlers think that freedom is indoors, in their settlement.
I partially disagree with Nicole. The Native Americans seem to view freedom as the ability to be close to their mother, Earth and to always have living air and to be able to feel the sun. On page 37 at the beginning of Chapter 7 True Son states that to be in such a confinement where you are seperated from nature and the the earth would cause a Native American to wither and die.
I think the indians did not much freedom because their land was always taken and stuff. On the other hand they could fish or hunt or do anything. The whites always took the land so they had alot of freedom.
