How do True Son's attitudes about the settlers change throughout the novel?

Do they change? When do they change? How do they change?
Do they remain the same? To what extent?

Give examples, page numbers or quotes if you can.

I think that his attitude changed alot after living with them for awhile. He didn't try to run away as much after he had gotten to know them a little better. When he did run away, he felt bad leaving Gordie behind, i think he looked at him as a little brother more and more as the time wet by. In the beginning, he would do anything to get away, he fight a thousand men, but after awhile, he didn't really care anymore. I think he pretty much had given up all the hope of getting back into his Indian family, and i think that might have been one of the reasons why he got sick.

in the begining of the book trueson thinks of the white as his enemies. when he gets to fort pitt he diddnt want to be there and never talk to any one. he had a little bit of tolerance for the white but he did not respect the women because the indian women would have to cook and clean for the family but the white women had other people cook and clean for the family. as the story goes on he starts to talk and interact with the whtie and gordie. but truly new that he didnt really like them.

In the book "Light in the Forest" True son's attitude changes a lot and he has a lot of bad thoughts about the white settlers. He mainly does not like them becuase they are people who discriminate, hate, and kill the people of his Indian Tribes. An example is when True son get's to Fort Pitt to meet his family, he is not very happy with meeting his uncles because he had found out that they were Paxton Boy Leaders in the past. So he get's in a huge fight with his Uncle Owen about how it is wrong to do that and he hates him for it. The unlce said that he has no right to tell him how to treat the Indians, then slaps True Son in the face, but True Son holds his anger becuase he knows that Cuyloga would not want him to start anything. He also does not like them becuase they have removed him from his Indian father, freinds, and family. He was in shock of this decision of him leaving to join his true white family and isn't liking it very much.

In the story, true son 's attitude toward the settlers doesnt seem to change. he knows that they are his real family, but it must be hard to accept that. i think that one of the reasons that he got sick was because he missed his indian family.

at the begining he didn't really know to much about the white settelers. when he went to fort pitt he really didn't like them because they took him away from every thing that he knew. Now that he has been there a while he has kind of grown on them, but he would still rather be with his native family.

I think that True Son started to like the settlers more, the farther you got into the story. In the begining he that they were just white devils. After he ment Del he started to understand that they were just human beings just like them. He did not like any of his family ecsept his brother, but the more he got to now his parents the more he liked them. I do not think he will ever like his uncles though because of how they hate indians and because they were one of the pacson boys.

True Son went to see his family. When he went to Fort Pitt to first see his "real" dad, he thought the was really weak, because his dad was crying to actually see his "real" son for the first time. True Son especially didn't like Uncle Wilse, because he kills indians just for fun. The only person of his family he liked was his cousin, Gordie. He liked Gordie, because he just followed True Son and looked up to him, because he was an indian.

I thought that True Son didn't like the white settlers at all, in the biginning. He thought that they were all mean and took land from his native people. When he first was taken away from his adopted Native American family he was really mad and couldn't stand the fact that he may never see his adopted family again. In knowing this he then thought that he wanted to kill himself. After recieving the message from his father that Half Arrow delivered he then had the stength to move on. When he first met his real father he couldn't believe that this guy was his father. He felt sufficated and uncomfortable with their customs and the clothes that he had to wear. At this time he didn't like them at all. But, later on he grew more comfortable and trusting. Them Half Arrow and Little Crane came to free him. After he left his white family he had a whole different out look on the settlers.

I think his atitude got worse. At first he just hated them. Then he started wanting to kill them all. then he stated being spacific on who he wanted to kill and how.

True Son's thoughts about the settlers deffinatly changed throughout the book. In the beginning he was totally resistant to the thought of living with white settlers. As the book went on he became less resistant. In the end he warns the wihte settlers of an attack. By doing this, the author shows how much his feelings have changed towards the white settlers.

After awhile True Son does change. At first when he was taken away from the Indians he tried so hard to get away. When he recieves a message from Half Arrow, True Son waits to escape. When he was in the house of Harry Butler, he would wear his Indian dress until Aunt Kate took it away. Eventually he would wear the suit that was given to them. Soon he forgets about escaping while waiting for messages from his tribe.

During this book, True Son's feelings deffinately change. In the beginning of the book, he is very resistant to the thought of even living with the white settlers. By the end of this book, True Son has changed so much, that he warns the white settlers of an attack by his own tribe.

Well, in the book, The Light in the Forest, Truson, the native white captive, is sent away from his indian family and back to fort pitt to be united with his bialigical family. Truson hated white people so he had a hard time dealing with that fact that he is white. He doesn't talk to his new family, when they ask a question, and he doesn't even change out of his indian "dress". His attitude changes a little, he starts talking and interacting with his new family, but doesnt like them at all, and when he does talk, it is with a real bitter voice. The only one that treats him with respect and loves him for who he is, is his little brother Gordie. Gordie, is the only person who Truson actually talks to with kindness, But I think it won't be that way for long.

in the story his opinion changed a lot about the settlers because he was with them for so long he didn't think all white people were bad but he still thought some weren't very good like his uncle wilse because he thought that all indians were bad. and he was really racist against the indians. But he did like gordie and i think he kind of liked his dad but he still wasn't used to him enough. After reuniting with half arrow his feelings came back but he still respected Gordie.

Well I left my book at home but I can still post stuff. So I think True Son is gradually getting used to the idea that settlers are his family. For EXAMPLE he resigned himself to wearing white mans clothes and eating white mans beef. He did not want to do this but realized that he couldnt' hunt and he would soon smell bad if he didn't wear white mans clothes. I agree that he gets softer as time goes by but I have no idea and am too lazy to check who said that and if I go back it will delete my post

i think that his attitude changed alot. at first true son tried to run away as much as possible but as the story went on he got used to the whites and started softening up. Plus, he at first wouldn't talk to the whites ebcause he was 2 stuck up. Yet now he was talkng english and understanding all that the whites are saying. Also that inspectur dude said that true son wsa making alot of progress and that sooner or later he will be back to normal. So during his stay with his real family his view of them changed a whole lot.

True son thinks at the begining that all of the whites were the same and none of them were different. Later on in the storie he starts that atleast the children wernt bad. His little brother Gordie was a very good friend to him and close to the end of chapter 14 he saves a boat of white people from an attack. He did that because he thought of his brother. I think he did the right thing.

Madison Davis i totally agree with you!! Because in the story we was taken away from his Indian family whom he really loved living with and was taken away from the things he knew and loved! But after the time he spent there with his white family he kinda started liking most of them exspecially his brother Gordie. But he would still rather live with his Indian family.

At first they become much stronger in his hate, but at the end he begins to like them more, because they do not kill children, this was reminded to him because of Gordie.

When True son first had to go back to his white family he was very angry and said that they were not his family. He talked to them as little as possible and he refused to dress they way the wanted him to.He would often argue withthem about the way they treated Indians. The longer he lived with them he became more like them but always liked the indians the best.

True son's attitude does not change alot. He does soften up a bit towards his new family. But he does not change his attitude towards his nbew uncle or towards the fact that he can not live with his native american family. He does not change his attitude towards the white settlers living arrangments or the culture of the white settlers. I think that later in the story he will finally soften up to the white culture but not forget his native american culture. So in conclusion he did soften up a bit but not a whole lot.

I agree with Sara. True Son learns to kind of like his real family, especially Gordie. I think that is becuase Gordie is the person that treats him most normally. His other relatives assume a lot about him that is not true. His Aunt Kate thinks that he is partially incapable of speaking or learning or acting respectful. His parents unrealistically expect him to know English and to like everyone and to know how to use a fork and knife and any other appliance that he didn't have access to when he was living with the Lenape.

At the start of the story True Son really didn't want to go with the settlers. He was use to the way the indians lived and his vbeliefs where the same as the indians. He didn't know the ways of the other settlers and it was unfair to him. Later in the story True Son was still unhappy with his living conditions with the settlers and when he fouund his cousin he dicided to run away with him. So he hadn't become familair with the settlers ways and his attitude hadn't changed much. Though when running away he did seem to have changed his mind on a few things that he would have seen as okay before but as imoral now. Like scalping his "uncle", or killing the whites. At the end when he had to leave his father once again, he was sad. He prefered to live with indians but was forced to adapt the life he did not want.

True Son's attitude toward the settler changes over time. In Chapter 1 he he states that the settlers are aliens and are his enemy. By the end of Chapter 6 on page 36 he comes to have mutual understanding with his brother Gordie and he also respects him. By Chapter 11, though he hates some of the settlers he cannot bring himself to kill him when given the chance.
