one major conflict that trueson faces is when he was very depressed right at the beggining of when he was taken by the white men and he was contimplating suicide. And he could not decide whether to kill himself with the deadly root but once his friend half arrow starts to walk with him he decideds its not so bad and he doesnt kill himself

some of the conflicts characters face in this book "light in the forest" are that true son had to leave the Indians that he had grew up with for 11years. when he left and he was on the trip to go to the settlers, Little crane and half arrow came to true son and gave him some presents to help true son remember his Indain friends. when they got to the river that they had to cross to go to the settlers half arrow and little crane had to leave them. true son had to handle that they had to leave them because other wise the white people would kill them. true son had to go with the white people will his indian friends stayed on the other side of the river. when true son went to the white village he still felt like a true indian he flet like that because he didnt like how the settlers used and treated other people. true son didnt like how the settlers had thier life style.

One conflict was between True Son and Uncle Wilson. First of all, the two uncles, Uncle Wilson and Uncle Owens were part of the Paxton Boys. The Paxton boys were like the Ku Klucks Klan to the Native Americans. The Paxton Boys totally hated the Native Americans. The argument between True Son and Uncle Wilson was about the language True Son talked. He was poking fun at his language. And True Son hated him and Uncle Wilson did too.

Two charecters that contrast are True-son and Uncle Wilse. They both had something to say about who is the barbarien and who is the one in the right. they had points but I personaly am on True-son's side. If the white people had not try to take the indian land and try to over rule their culture, and not murder them like they did. Then the indians would have no reason to retaliate. Their is the saying two wrongs dont make a right, but for this, there can be an ecseption. Im glad we have land we have but I wish we could have gotten it a different way.

I agree with this very intellegent person who wrote about how True son had a conflict weather to kill himself or not and that half arrow saved him from doing that. Thank you grant for imforming us this great information.
I can see why true son would want to comit sucide i meen hes like livin in a nightmare! he feels totally depressed I mean the army took away true son from his indian family and to his american family!! now that must stink for him!

true son faces alot of misshaps in the book.like in one of the chapter trueson wants to kill himself.also he discovers his uncles in a cabin and he sees them kill little crane and half arrow woonded.
I think what I'm gonna do is just kinda go through True Son's hardships and show how he's changed throughout the story. He started out all happy with the INdians, but when he was taken away, he was upset to the point to suicide. Luckily, he decided against it, but in the end he ended up STILL unhappy. Just because he didn't want his brother to die, his Indian father banished him. Just because True SOn didn't want to kill his family doesn 't mean he wanted to live with them!
I agree with Grant. True Son had to decide if he was going to kill himself or not. He also had conflicts with his uncles which was started by differences and hate.
True Son faced many different conflicts in this story. One was a conflict wihtin himself. At the beginning of the book, he debated between commiting suicide by eating the May Apple root or toughing it out. When he tried to get the May Apple he was stopped by Del Hardy, the guard assigned to watch over him.
there are many conflicts that the characters face in the light in forest . one of the biggest conflicts is if true son should or should not eat the root. if he does he will die, but will not have to be a white. also there is a conflict at the end if true son will ever have a father. those are just a few conflicts in the story.

Well lets start. some conflicts in the story are, trueson doesnt know weather to eat the root that will kill him or to wait for the NA to come and rescue him. another one is with trueson and uncle wilse. they always fight about what race is better thaan the other. in my poinion the indians are more nice and repectful.

She wanted him to where regular clothes but he refused to, so he stayed in his room. Finally Aunt Kate got feed up and stool his Indian Clothes. True Son now had no choice. There were also conflicts between him and his Uncle Wilce. He was seriously debating against his uncle's thoughts about the Indians. This of course resulted in a slap acrossed the face from his uncle but it was worth it to True Son.

in chapter...11 True Son found out that Little Crane was dead. this is an example of internal conflict bcause he realized that his good freind was dead thanks to the white settlers. I think it affected True Son very much cause he was related to the people that took a part in killing him.

True son does face alot of conflicts. I think that his family goes through alot of conflicts too such as they all want to see him but just walking on what the whites call their land is dangerous. True Sons freinds back home arent even allowed to see him any more. It also sucks for true son because he has to live with people he grew up hating and its just not right.

Everyone's talking about him killing himself, but you're missing another brutal and important conflict-Fitting in with the whites. He doesn't want to, but he gradually does. His white family also accuses him of stealing things.

True son faces alot of conflicts with Himself. Some of the conflicts he faces with himself are things like comitting suicide with the tree root. He did not co this because half arrow came and walked with him to the white settler's settlement. Some other conflict he has with himself are how he was going to kill Dell with dell's own knife once true son got free. He was going to but he never got a chance to. These are only some of the conflicts true son had with himself.

I think that True Son's biggest conflict is that he has to go back to his white parents. This is a conflict for him because he dislikes his parents and there ways. if he does go back he will have to give up all his indain ways. Also he doesn't like what they did to his people.

I think the major conflict in the story is the True son being white also, as some other students said. The reason is because the settlers want to take him back because hes white. On the other hand, he was raised an Indian so the Indians have the right to take him also. So they have a constant fight over him but in the end, True Son is taken by the whites. I found the informations of my statements from the book The Light In The Forest.
i think that grant is wrong because true son never appers to be deppressed. he is upset but not deppressed

One conflict in the story was between true son and True son's Uncle Wilse. This was a conflict because the uncle was a paxton boy and would kill the indians. Since True son was raised as an Indian they do not get along. Then when little Crane and half arrow went to the uncles house asking for True son the uncle shot little crane and killed him. After True son and half arrow find each-other they go back to the uncle and try to scalp but do not finish because the other uncle chases them away.

I agree with Stephanie just like Karina and others did. True Son went through a lot of trials. He started out happy and ended up getting taken away from the indians which made him unhappy and upset to a dangerous level. The white men upset True Son with their ways and stuff.

It seems like a conflict that True Son had to face was that of the depression that befell him by being forced to go back to the settlers. In Chapter 3 it states that he lay with despair filling him. He even contemplated suicide. The book states on page 11 "Three times that day the boy tried to get the root of the May apple.". This being an internal conflict it turned out to be that only being around his cousin, who came into the story on page 12, did he start to win the fight by feeling hopeful.
I agree with Chanelle that he was happy at the beginning, and when the white people took him out of his Indian family, he started to not like his life so much. So he started to feel like he didn't want to live.

Whene You think about the book if u have read it all, and even if u haven't it brings up an interesting subject why did the author write this book. what was his meaning was it to show children how the settlers and the indians goit along or was it just a joyride in fantasy? If u really think about it there are so many subjects that come up, so many questionbsd that people need answering about this book!
Mainly everyone is writing about True Son so i guess i should to. True Son does go through many conflicts with many people. It is mostly with the whites, Del Hardy, Uncle Wilse(which he had a fight in pages 42-46), Aunt Kate, and his bioglogical family- such as his, mother father, and brother- The one person he has the most conflict with is Uncle Wilse and who can blame him. They come from two completely different worlds. Everyone wanted him to be happy and go backk to the ways of the whites but that was just impossible for True Son because he was born and raised with the Indians and wanted to attack them. The only thing that was holding him back was the message that Half Arrow sent him from his father. ON page 21 and 22. It summerizes basically that he should wait till the time is right to leave his white family and that he should be a good person around the whites so they wont kill him.
